Why We Like It: JUICYPEAR’s “Rollercoaster” — CentralSauce

And we, more often than not, overlook the music created by unfamiliar faces because it’s challenging. How We Found It
This so fresh, so clean So-Cal couple has us jamming in our SubmitHub inbox. Jacob and Jasmine Mayeda make the JUICYPEAR. Having only made their debut this year, the happily married couple originally adopted their name as a joke, but have since lived up to the name by dropping two songs that certainly get the musical palette thirsting for more. While their previous single was meant for sunny vacations and loving getaways, “Rollercoaster” sees them taking a funky turn and exploring the wild ride that is marriage.
Why We Like It
As a kid, I kinda hated roller coasters. At least, I would always hate the first roller coaster I would go on. The slow creeping feeling of going up and being so high that my mom or dad looking up from below would seem like ants in comparison. My stomach would start getting queasy. My vision would get blurred and I’m freaking out on the inside. Asking God “why would you do this? If the person who came up with this terrible idea is up there, we gon’ have a long talk when I get home.”
I would be absolutely losing it. Then we get to the top. My heart is about to pump every single red blood cell out of my body. Just when I think I got lucky from divine intervention of mechanical malfunction, it drops. Screaming for my life with my eyes closed, the wind pressure eventually forces my eyes open and slowly but surely, my scared frown changes into a smile that’s excited for every single second of the ride. It turns into a few minutes of fun fueled adrenaline that has its ups and downs — similar to the small space of time reserved for our very own meaningful life. I would find that same feeling in my relationships soon after that and how the thrill of love could be like any joyride but you get to share it with someone else as well. On JUICYPEAR’s “Rollercoaster”, they capture that feeling perfectly.
The song starts with a groovy, thumping bassline, moving into some swirling synths that lay the groundwork for Jasmine’s breezy vocals. She sings “I was dream daze,” as she starts floating on the production performed by Jacob. Like the best of joyrides, the ascent to the top begins as the instruments start to intensify and Jasmine’s register starts to get higher with greater strength. Then, like the drop of your life, the chorus it’s and I was going full speed ahead.
Although things don’t go as planned or life throws you on a rollercoaster don’t forget to see and feel all the good that’s happening around you too. Set your eyes on the good, on the “sunny days”, keep moving forward!” – JUICYPEAR for CentralSauce (2020)
The chorus hits like the turbulent winds rushing on your face and flowing through your hair. It’s glittery and bright enough that the whole soul smiles and stays in blissful peace until a mild taciturn tale takes you on a ride through the ringer. It’s magnificently crisp with the guitar that’s amped up and far-out feeling from the production that’s on 10. It’s a high that ends but my heart is still beating and continues until the chorus rolls around again. The momentum of the song has a great trajectory and even maintains it in its softer moments.

In terms of lyrics, co-written by Aalok Balaa and Bala Mandala, the song uses the metaphor of excitement about starting this new life together. All the change that’s coming their way is positive, and the pair only see it as such. It’s an optimistic and refreshing take on love that sees them living in the moment. Jasmine sings on the bridge “we’re on a roll and that’s a fact / full speed ahead, no turning back.” Despite the upcoming hurdles, they’re going on it together and enjoying the high of everything new.
Songs like these, keep me in an upbeat mood and remind me that despite the twists and curves my love life or just life take, I can enjoy the new feeling of exuberance that comes with it. I’ve never felt so right about that feeling and I can’t wait to go on the roller coaster to experience it all over.

We were in the middle of our wedding planning and if you’ve ever planned a wedding or have been a part of one you know it can be pretty crazy. We were riding what we feel a rollercoaster through the whole thing. Emotional ups and downs. Situational twists and turns. Plans that threw us for a loop. So, we wrote a song about the excitement of a life changing moment and how to stay positive and encouraged during a time where “there’s a lot going on.”
We wrote the song in one day and recorded everything that night and the following day. It all started with the drumbeat/ tempo inspired by Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling” and a guitar lick Jacob created, and it took off from there. It’s interesting though how it can be the same tempo as another song yet feel so much slower and vibey than a full-on poppy, dance song.” – JUICYPEAR for CentralSauce (2020)
