JUICYPEAR Drops Psych-Folk, ‘Seventies SoCal In The Summer' Flavor On New Single — Black Panda PR Press Release →
Indie-pop duo shelves its dance elements for a psych-folk, ‘Seventies SoCal in the summer' flavor on latest original single.
Like most of us, it probably remains to be seen whether or not JUICYPEAR needed 2020, but in hindsight, it’s pretty clear 2020 needed plenty of JUICYPEAR.
Amidst a season of societal heaviness, confusion and constraint, the husband-wife duo of Jacob and Jasmine Mayeda emerged out of nowhere (SoCal, actually) in the back-half of the year with a series of shimmery, soulful, power-pop tunes that delivered an essential dosage of levity and bliss to weary souls worldwide.
JUICYPEAR’s trio of sun-soaked, disco-tinged releases served almost as a virtual tour of the pair’s first year of marriage. Led by debut “Golden Sky,” celebrating the lovers’ new adventure and a song Neon Music described as “summer encapsulated,” followed by the relational highs and lows of their new life in “Rollercoaster” and most recently, embracing life’s sweeter moments in the groove-ballad “Caught Up.”
“It was a rough and weird year to start a band,” laughs Jasmine. “But it’s also redemptive to be able to bring music into the world that gave us something to look forward to and bring some joy. The pair’s fourth single, the bouncy, chill-wave-inflected “Keep Your Love On” has collected well over a quarter-million Spotify streams since it’s release in February.
In an unintentional effort to steer clear of any genre “boxes,” JUICYPEAR’s latest effort “Just Begun” settles into a folkier, 70s radio experience; melding a warm ’n’ breezy California coastline groove with campfire-ready acoustic instrumentation and the duo’s dreamy, sun-kissed harmonies.
"You know when you think you know the direction your life is going in? Like, you had a plan and your mind and your heart was set on that dream or goal, and you could see yourself down the road with this certain outcome and all of a sudden you find out you didn’t get that job position, or you didn’t get accepted into that school or program, or it wasn’t what you expected it to be, or you found out you’re having a baby?” Reflects Jasmine. “And then, that news brings all your expectations, your dreams, your plans to a crashing halt and you are forced to either make a complete U-turn or turn down a road you had not planned for but you have to take anyway.
“This fall we had one of those unexpected moments and we cried and felt all the feelings to truly allow ourselves to mourn what we thought our life was going to look like for the next few years. In this process we learned to let it go and to accept a new normal and a new route, and you know what, after a few weeks (or months) we started to warm up to this new plan. We knew “it’ll turn out fine. It’ll be alright” and we can confidently go down this road with joy realizing this was always how it was supposed to be and actually our lives have just begun.”

Jasmine and Jacob were both born and raised in the South Bay area of southern California. The story of their ultimately serendipitous union has all the makings of a Hallmark movie, filled with heartrending twists, turns, and missed opportunities.
The two married in April of 2019 and live happily in South Bay with their rambunctious puppy, Gibson.
Inspired by artists like Pharrell, Lianne La Havas, Dua Lipa, John Mayer, Stevie Wonder, and H.E.R., JUICYPEAR is part of AESTHETYK, founded by music industry veteran, Matt Ingle.
