Jamie Jacobsen Releases Fresh New Single “Not That Deep” — Beyond the Stage Magazine

by CONNOR BARNES

If you were asked to name a more dynamic duo than heartbreak and music you’d probably be pressed. Since the beginning of time, breakup anthems and aching hearts have topped the charts. Recent examples of success through this genre include Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo, but how long until a broken heart is whole again? Then what? That’s what Jamie Jacobsen, A.K.A. Tedious & Brief, wants to know.

Jamie Jacobsen is tough. The 23-year-old singer hails from Chicago’s south side and has developed into a notable indie/alt songstress with a knack for songwriting. Her new single “Not That Deep” puts her talents on display as she tackles heartbreak from a new angle.

Speaking about the inspiration for the song, Jacobsen reveals “My husband came to me with the opening lyrics of the song, I’m tired of singing your songs. I thought they were for me, but turns out they were yours all along.’ He’s a studio drummer and every session he played on that week was for songs touching on the subject of a person who broke the writer’s heart. He thought to himself, ‘What does it look like once you’re done grieving and you’re ready to move on? You’ll look back at your catalog of music and realize you’ve been writing about the same person and heartache and you’re eventually sick of giving them that attention.”

“Not That Deep” is an incredible track that explores an aged genre from a fresh perspective. Having a powerful voice match the equally powerful lyrics makes all 3:09 minutes of the song a captivating hit that everyone can relate to (love is universal after all). We can’t wait to see what topic this Chicago-native tackles next.
